Setting goals for the new year is a bit ridiculous. We shouldn't wait until a new year to make a resolve to change!
I like to believe we reset and start anew when we wake up everyday. And while I was thinking about the goals I want to set for the year, the month, the week, and today I heard the following advice for setting goals.
1. Know what God wants for you.
Let's humbly pray and ponder over our scriptures and listen to what The Lord wants for and from us.
2. Know that God can help you succeed.
If we know what the Lord wants from us, we know that He can help us succeed. Having the Lord on our side will make what we feel is impossible, possible.
3. Know that God loves you, even if you feel like you have failed.
Now if I were to think back on 2016 I would give myself a cookie, to reward myself for all the success I had, but I would also think about how often I failed and still eat the cookie because I'm a millennial. 😜
I read the following counsel today from President Uchtdorf
“God loves you this very day and always. He is not waiting to love you until you have overcome your weaknesses and bad habits. He loves you today with a full understanding of your struggles. … He knows of your remorse for the times you have fallen short or failed. And still He loves you. … He wants you to achieve your destiny—to return to your heavenly home in honor.”
What a comforting truth that the Lord loves us, has a plan for us, and wants us to succeed.
The goal I want to set on a daily basis and for this year is to make sure there is love in the Ambriz family home and that I remain worthy in the eyes of the Lord.
The Lord taught:
For your Heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. (In speaking about food, clothing, shelter, and any of the things we need to live whether it's a job to earn money or to lose weight to be healthy. He knows what we need)
But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.
